Microsoft Ending/Superb Support for Android Office Apps on Chromebook

Chromebooks

About Chromebooks spoke with Microsoft regarding the Android Office applications, and it turns out the company is moving Chromebook users over to the web Office experiences.

Chromebook support for Office Android apps is ending next month. Unfortunately, this means that Office on the web will be the only way Chromebook users will take advantage of Office and everything it offers.

Microsoft PR has this to say: “In order to provide the best experience for Chrome OS/Chromebook users, Microsoft apps (Office) will be converted to web experiences (Office.com/Outlook.com) on September 18, 2020. Chrome OS/Chromebook users will have access to premium features and additional functions with this transition. Customers will need to log in using their Microsoft Account or the account associated with their Microsoft 365 subscription. You can find more information here.

Office on Android will continue to be available for tablets and smartphones, as you might expect. Chromebooks are larger than Android devices and the apps aren’t optimized for Chromebooks. This is why Microsoft made this move.
